The incident occurred in the northbound lanes near the 4400 South overpass at mile marker 340 shortly before 5 a.m., according to Lt. Cameron Roden.
Authorities reported that an adult male driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate the driver left the roadway to the right and struck a crash cushion.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Lt. Roden noted there was standing water in the vicinity.
During the investigation and cleanup, the right lane was closed, while the left two lanes remained open to traffic.
