FOSTER, R.I. (WJAR) — A serious crash occurred Thursday night at the intersection of Route 101 and Route 94, prompting renewed safety concerns from residents.

An SUV reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with a tractor-trailer. This incident marks the latest in a series of serious accidents at the intersection, where multiple injuries have been reported in recent months. In April, a two-vehicle crash left seven people, including four children, injured, and another serious crash in May sent three individuals to the hospital.

Residents and local business owners have expressed frustration over the intersection's safety. Paul Oueidat, owner of JP's General Store nearby, stated, “Every single time an accident, and it's getting worse than before.” State Representative Mike Chippendale echoed concerns about the increasing number of crashes, citing a need for quicker action from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT).

The intersection is controlled by a stop sign on Route 94, complemented by flashing lights. However, residents report frequent violations, with drivers failing to stop. Following the May accident, RIDOT announced plans to install a traffic signal, although the project is expected to take approximately one year.

In response to recent incidents, RIDOT indicated it would expedite the project and install additional warning signs this summer. Residents are advocating for immediate improvements, pointing to increased traffic volume and unsafe driving behaviors as contributing factors to the escalating danger at the intersection.
