Driver Injured in Collision with School Bus in Somerset
SOMERSET, Mass. — A driver was injured in a head-on collision with a school bus on Brayton Point Road on Thursday afternoon. The Somerset Police Department responded to the scene between Wilbur Avenue and Butler Street around 2:54 p.m.
Police reported that the collision caused minor injuries to the driver, but none of the students on the bus were harmed. It was determined that the driver of the vehicle left their lane of travel and struck the bus.
According to the driver, they fell asleep at the wheel prior to the crash. Authorities confirmed there were no signs of intoxication or substance use involved.
The injured driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Students on the bus were either picked up by their families at the scene or transferred to another bus and taken to the middle school.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene following the incident.
