JACKSON, Miss. — A wrong-way driver was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 55 Wednesday around 9 a.m.
According to Madison police, a gray car was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it crashed, ran off the road, and struck trees near the Madison Avenue Exit. The impact ignited a large fire.
Authorities confirmed that the Madison Fire Department, Madison Police Department, and Ridgeland Police Department responded to the scene. First responders were unable to rescue the driver, whose identity has not been released.
The incident remains under investigation. No further information on lane closures or additional injuries was provided.
