Man Charged in Fatal Crash in Greene County

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested Keontae Tysheen Hines, 31, of Hookerton, in connection with the death of Makaylah Dixon, 27, following a crash on Fort Run Road near Hill on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Authorities said Dixon was from a Black 2019 GMC Yukon Denali after Hines lost control of the vehicle. According to reports, Hines initially ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, and subsequently veered left, striking a ditch and rolling multiple times. First responders found Dixon trapped in a tree nearby.

Hines has been charged with second-degree murder, felony resulting in serious injury or death, obstructing justice, with wanton disregard, driving while license revoked (impaired), and driving left of center.

Warrants indicate that Hines consumed impairing substances before driving and that his license was revoked at the time of the incident. Following the crash, he allegedly fled the scene and misrepresented his involvement to officials.

Hines remains in custody without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Oct. 31, at the Greene County Courthouse.
