HOBART, Ind. (Local News Wire) — A fatal crash occurred Saturday evening on northbound I-65 beneath the 73rd Avenue overpass, Indiana State Police confirmed.
The incident involved a yellow bus, converted into a recreational vehicle, towing a passenger car, as well as an SUV and a pickup truck. Authorities reported that the bus struck the bridge support, resulting in the driver's death at the scene.
The truck driver, identified as 48-year-old David K. Rodgers of Gary, exhibited signs of alcohol impairment and was combative during arrest. He was transported to a hospital for a blood draw before being taken to the Lake County Jail, where he faces a probable cause hold for operating while intoxicated involving a fatality.
A passenger from the bus was airlifted to the University of Chicago Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the SUV driver sustained no severe injuries.
