SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, a 23-year-old driver fleeing a traffic stop struck a school in Sumter County, authorities said.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, a deputy conducting school-zone enforcement near The Villages Intermediate Center clocked Qahiem Williams driving 17 mph over the limit on County Road 466 near Tatonka Terrace.

When the deputy U-turned and activated lights, Williams accelerated, sideswiped two vehicles at a traffic light, then collided head-on with Sumter County school bus No. 7818 on County Road 103, investigators said.

The bus was carrying 19 children; none were injured, the Sheriff's Office said.

Video released by the Sheriff's Office shows a deputy pursuing a suspect through a Walmart parking area before taking him into custody.

Authorities said Williams was medically cleared and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center without bond on charges of fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, marijuana possession and leaving the scene of a crash. Additional charges are possible.

The Sheriff's Office said Williams also had two outstanding Sumter County warrants for fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license.
