OSAGE BEACH — A high-speed boat crash during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout on Saturday left one racer injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. when the Dirty Duck racing team’s boat, traveling over 213 miles per hour, lost downforce and went airborne near the end of the course.
According to witnesses, the boat, helmed by driver Rusty Williams, suddenly lifted off the water, resulting in a violent crash. Williams escaped with minor injuries, while throttleman Adam Seraphine sustained a serious leg injury.
Emergency responders were on the scene shortly after the crash to assist the injured. Seraphine’s injury was serious enough to require immediate medical attention, with reports indicating a compound fracture.
The crash drew significant attention online, with video footage garnering over two million views on social media. Spectators described the event as unfolding in slow motion, with many expressing concern for the safety of the crew.
Authorities said the team is examining the circumstances of the incident and plans to make engineering adjustments to improve safety.
Despite the setback, the Dirty Duck team aims to return to the race track and compete for the overall top title in future events, having narrowly missed a win in their class, which was taken by American Ethanol.
