CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (TNND) — A South Carolina deputy rescued a woman from a burning vehicle after a crash on Interstate 77 on May 23.
Deputy Daniel Threatt responded to a single-vehicle accident involving an overturned car that had partially caught fire. Upon arrival, he found the driver trapped inside, prompting him to act swiftly.
Authorities reported that Threatt, the first responder on the scene, broke a window to access the woman, who was stuck in her seatbelt. Additional first responders quickly arrived to extinguish the fire and provide medical assistance.
The woman, identified as Carletta Bush, was en route to Charlotte to celebrate the completion of her radiation treatments for breast cancer. Body camera footage captured Threatt's efforts to reach her amid the danger.
According to authorities, Bush described Threatt as her “guardian angel.” After the incident, Threatt visited her in the hospital and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help.
