Plane Crash Near Lowell Kills Two
VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A plane crash near Lowell on [date] has resulted in the deaths of pilot Kevin Lawrence and passenger Paul Schalk.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the aircraft took off from Alpena, stopped in Oscoda to pick up Schalk, and was en route to Lowell City Airport. The purpose of the flight was for Schalk to view an airplane for sale.
Investigators reported the crash occurred approximately 0.43 miles from the airport’s runway. The impact caused an explosion, igniting both the aircraft wreckage and a nearby storage facility.
Witnesses stated they observed the plane descending before the crash, with no visible smoke or flames and no unusual engine sounds reported.
This preliminary report does not conclude the investigation. Authorities indicated that comprehensive investigations can take months to complete, as noted by a longtime pilot.
