CONWAY — A 19-year-old man was killed in a boat crash on the Waccamaw River on May 8, according to authorities.
Canon Burkett succumbed to his injuries at Conway Medical Center just before 7 p.m., as reported by the Horry County Coroner's Office.
The crash occurred earlier that afternoon in the Jackson Bluff area, prompting emergency response. Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Two individuals were transported to the hospital with critical injuries, while three others received treatment at the scene, HCFR confirmed.
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources is conducting an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson was unavailable for comment on May 11.
