Dozens gathered in Loxahatchee on November 2024 to honor three Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies killed in a tragic crash.
Attendees stood under overcast skies along PBSO Motorman Highway to remember Deputy Ignacio Dan Diaz, Corporal Luis Paez Jr., and Deputy Ralph ‘Butch' Waller. The deputies were fatally struck on Southern Blvd. when a vehicle driven by Corrinne Blue allegedly veered off the roadway and hit them before crashing into a guardrail.
Maria Caraballo, the event organizer, expressed the community's need for solidarity, stating, “We were all very hurt by what happened.” She emphasized the importance of community support.
While the date of the remembrance holds no specific significance, attendee Gene Ransburg said, “The big thing is never forget,” stressing the community's commitment to honoring fallen law enforcement officers.
The gathering occurred nearly a mile from the crash site, with attendees sharing personal memories of the deputies. “They were very dedicated dads,” Caraballo noted. Groups on motorcycles reflected on the lasting impact of the event.
Ransburg, whose life was touched by the deputies, reiterated the importance of remembrance: “You have to show up and remember. People will hopefully never forget.” This marks the first public gathering since Blue's arrest. According to authorities, she was released from jail after posting a $750,000 bond, with a court hearing scheduled for June 3.
