COLUMBIA — A man was shot and killed while driving in an apartment complex in the 6300 block of Bailey Street on September 12.
Authorities said deputies from the Richland County Sheriff's Department heard gunfire near The Colony Apartments and responded to find a vehicle that had crashed into a building. The male driver was discovered with an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The exact time of the shooting has not been disclosed.
The Richland County Coroner's Office identified the victim as William Anderson IV, 24, of Columbia, on September 14. Coroner Naida Rutherford confirmed the ongoing investigation in collaboration with the Columbia Police Department.
“This remains an active homicide investigation,” Columbia police stated. Investigators are currently conducting interviews, reviewing evidence, and establishing a timeline of events.
