Fatal Collision in Dallas Leaves One Dead; Suspect Arrested
DALLAS, TX — A pedestrian was killed and a suspect arrested following a collision on North Collett Avenue near Swiss Avenue Thursday evening.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., 25-year-old Tyrell Jones allegedly collided with Jose Avila while fleeing a carjacking. Witnesses reported seeing Jones struggle with a driver after jumping onto her vehicle, which forced her to exit in fear for her safety.
Authorities said Jones fled the scene, driving erratically in the wrong lane, before crashing head-on into a stopped vehicle at a stop sign. The impact reportedly pushed both vehicles back about 100 feet, pinning Avila against a tree.
Avila was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No other serious injuries were reported.
Dallas Police arrested Jones later that evening, charging him with murder and robbery. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Emergency services responded promptly, and lane closures were implemented as officials processed the scene.
