MALDEN, MA—A car crashed into the Santa Fe Burrito Grill and Bar on Pleasant Street Wednesday morning, causing significant damage.
Emergency responders, including local police and firefighters, arrived shortly after the incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. According to authorities, an elderly woman mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to parallel park.
The vehicle penetrated about halfway through the entrance, demolishing most of the front door and facade but fortunately causing no injuries. The road remains closed between Abbott and Commercial streets for cleanup and assessment.
Deputy Chief Keith Buchanan stated, “The glass window above was just hanging by one of the posts and it weighs about 400 or 500 pounds, so it was very dangerous.”
Buchanan acknowledged the area's high foot traffic due to nearby businesses and an MBTA station, noting, “It's very fortunate that nobody was walking by at that time.” Cleanup efforts are ongoing, and the investigation into the incident is underway.
