Body of Man Who Died in Car Fire Sent to GBI Lab

SAVANNAH, GA — The body of a man who died in a car fire on Tuesday night is being transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) crime lab today.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene on Abercorn Street shortly after 9:00 p.m. to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. According to the Savannah Fire Department, the fire was extinguished quickly, but the driver, whose identity has not been released, was at the scene.

Authorities reported that no other vehicles were involved in the incident. There were no confirmed injuries to pedestrians or bystanders. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion prior to the arrival of emergency services.

The Chatham County Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding the incident, pending results from the GBI's examination.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Abercorn Street was partially closed for several hours while authorities collected evidence. All lanes have since reopened.
