Body Discovered in Plain City Retention Pond More Than a Week After Crash

PLAIN CITY, Ohio — A body was found May 6 in a Lafayette-Plain City Road retention pond, nearly two weeks after an April 24 crash.

According to the Plain City Police Department, officers responded around 4 a.m. April 24 to a retention pond between Caroline Drive and Estate Road for a crash.

Police said the was recovered from the water with no occupant. Investigators noted signs the vehicle lost control and slid into the pond.

After repeated searches by dive teams and a sonar scan, Plain City officers discovered the body partially submerged just before 2 p.m. May 6, authorities said.

Police identified the deceased as Charlie Tona Thach, 26, who most recently lived in Plain City. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.

Columbus Police had received a missing person report for Thach. After a final search, no additional victims were found, authorities said.
