COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The remains of three airmen killed in a KC-135 refueling crash in Iraq were returned to Ohio on Sunday.
Capt. Seth R. Koval, Master Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons, and Capt. Curtis J. Angst were among six service members who died on March 12 during combat operations. Their aircraft went down while conducting a mission in Iraq, according to the U.S. Air Force.
The remains were transported from Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base to a local funeral home for a private service attended by friends and family. The event is closed to the public.
All three airmen were part of the 121st Air Refueling Wing in Columbus and were serving alongside three members of the 6th Air Refueling Wing from MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, who also perished in the incident. Authorities did not provide additional details regarding the crash investigation.
