LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A 60-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash on East Desert Inn Road Friday afternoon, according to Las Vegas police.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:56 p.m. near South Topaz Street. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the bicyclist was riding east in the rightmost lane when a 2017 BMW M440i sedan overtook and sideswiped him.
Authorities confirmed that the impact caused the bicyclist to lose control and fall onto the roadway. The driver of the BMW, identified as Peter Lindner, fled the scene without stopping.
Officers later located Lindner, who exhibited signs of impairment. Following a DUI investigation, he was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
Emergency medical services transported the injured cyclist to Sunrise Hospital, where medical staff confirmed his injuries to be life-threatening.
The crash is under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
