BOONE COUNTY, Ill. — A fatal pedestrian accident occurred Saturday evening, resulting in DUI charges against a local teenager.
At approximately 7 p.m., the Boone County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of Olson Road and Sheffield Drive. According to authorities, a southbound SUV, driven by 19-year-old Trevor Tosh of Belvidere, merged into the northbound lane to overtake another vehicle.
While performing the maneuver, the SUV struck 41-year-old pedestrian Anthony Tzemopoulos of Belvidere. Tzemopoulos was pronounced dead at the scene, while Tosh sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Tosh has been charged with aggravated DUI—alcohol causing death, a Class 2 Felony, and alcohol-related DUI, a Class A Misdemeanor. Authorities said the aggravated DUI charge carries a potential sentence of 3 to 14 years in prison, while the misdemeanor could result in up to 1 year of incarceration.
Tosh is currently held at Boone County Jail following a court appearance on Monday at 1:15 p.m. The Boone County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Team is conducting an investigation into the incident.
