Head-On Collision in Topsham, Maine; One Dead, Two Injured
Topsam, Maine – A head-on crash late Saturday night on Route 196 claimed one life and left two others seriously injured.
According to the Topsham Police Department, the accident occurred near the Merrymeeting Bridge around 10:38 p.m. A gray GMC pickup truck and a white Volvo SUV were involved in the collision, resulting in injuries to three individuals.
First responders initiated life-saving measures on a 23-year-old passenger from one of the vehicles, who was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The drivers, a 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate one vehicle crossed the centerline, leading to the head-on impact. Authorities have not confirmed the details regarding who was at fault or the reason for the lane incursion, and no charges have been announced at this time.
