One Injured in Washington County Crash Involving Semi and Two Pickup Trucks

COTTAGE GROVE, MN — One person sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision involving a semi and two pickup trucks Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 95 (Manning Avenue) and 70th Street South. A northbound semi collided with a 2011 Sierra pickup traveling eastbound on 70th Street, pushing it into another Sierra in the southbound lanes of Highway 95.

The semi driver was with non-life-threatening injuries. The primary pickup driver, 48-year-old Shane Loughney from Woodville, Wisconsin, was transported to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second pickup did not require hospitalization.

Cottage Grove Public Safety reported a “significant” crash, prompting initial traffic closures. As of 5:15 p.m., traffic has reopened on 70th Street South and southbound Highway 95, but northbound Highway 95 remains closed.

Emergency responders on the scene included the Minnesota State Patrol, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Cottage Grove Police and Fire, and Hastings EMS. MnDOT initially closed the intersection for safety measures.

Update

As of 5:15 p.m., 70th St S is back open in both directions, and southbound Manning Ave (Highway 95) is also open. Northbound Manning from 70th is still closed.
