Iowa Airman Killed in B-52 Crash to Be Honored with Hometown Procession
ADEL, Iowa — The remains of Maj. Brad Hovey, an Iowa airman who died in a B-52 bomber crash, will be returned to Adel for a procession on July 17.
Maj. Hovey was one of eight fatalities from the crash that occurred during a routine test mission shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California.
The procession is scheduled to leave the Des Moines International Airport between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., traveling west on Interstate 80 and north through Dallas Center before arriving at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Adel between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Authorities encourage Iowans to line the route to pay their respects. Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered flags to fly at half-staff until sunset on July 17, the day Maj. Hovey will be interred at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.
