MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Two people survived a small plane crash in a remote area south of Grand Junction on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:40 p.m., deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office received a report of the crash near Highway 141, situated between Whitewater and Gateway, roughly 20 miles south of Grand Junction.
The pilot and a passenger reportedly walked away from the incident, according to the sheriff's office. Both individuals were subsequently transported by CareFlight of the Rockies to an area hospital for medical evaluation.
As of 7 p.m., deputies were en route on foot to reach the crash site. The cause of the crash remains undetermined, with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board leading the investigation.
