12-Year-Old Boy Killed in Electric Scooter Crash in East Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A 12-year-old boy, Jovonn “Jojo” Magee, was fatally struck by a car while riding his electric scooter on Tully Avenue near Hidden Desert Way early Sunday morning, according to Las Vegas police.
The collision, reported shortly after the incident, resulted in Magee's immediate death. The driver remained at the scene and passed a sobriety test, with impairment not suspected.
A growing memorial has emerged at the crash site, with friends and family leaving flowers to remember Magee as a humorous and kind child. “He could easily make people laugh,” said Ruby Magana, a friend.
This incident marks the 119th traffic-related death in Las Vegas for the year and the third fatal crash involving an electric scooter. In response to rising incidents, local authorities have introduced new regulations, requiring minors to wear helmets and for electric scooters to be equipped with lights and reflectors, effective October 1.
A remembrance gathering will be held at Mater Academy East's football field on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
