A woman was involved in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 near Marana early June 14, after reportedly consuming alcohol and marijuana, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., DPS received calls about a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near Cortaro Farms Road. A crash occurred near Avra Valley Road before officers could intervene, DPS reported.
The wrong-way vehicle sideswiped another car, causing it to roll onto its roof, authorities said.
The driver registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.214 percent and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to DPS.
The other driver sustained injuries but was treated and released. The wrong-way driver remains hospitalized with long-term injuries.
She has been booked on several charges, including DUI. Authorities reported she was attempting to return to Tempe after leaving a bar in Phoenix.
DPS urged drivers to secure a sober ride if consuming alcohol or marijuana, highlighting the risks of impaired driving leading to injuries or fatalities.
