CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas State Trooper died in a line-of-duty crash on US-287 near Childress on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting a traffic stop around 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled into his path, causing a collision. Trooper Romero did not survive the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Before joining the Department of Public Safety in 2025, Trooper Romero served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office. He was stationed in Childress at the time of the accident.
Trooper Romero is survived by his wife and two young sons.
