BROCKTON, MASS. — A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a pedestrian last month.
Dominick Leite was arraigned Thursday on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and leaving the scene of personal injury or death, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. The incident took place on the night of August 31, when 41-year-old Holden Depina was struck while crossing Crescent Street.
Depina succumbed to his injuries three days later in the hospital. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle flee the scene, and surveillance footage captured a blue Mazda heading toward Leite's residence. Investigators later located a car matching that description at a local auto body shop, showing damage consistent with the crash.
Leite was arrested on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty in court. A judge set bail at $2,500, and he is scheduled to return to court on October 17, authorities said.
