CLARE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) – An SUV collided head-on with a semi-truck Monday morning, resulting in one fatality and one serious injury, according to the Clare County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities reported the incident occurred at approximately 11:38 a.m. on M-115 near Ashard Road in Freeman Township. A 2022 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 75-year-old John Peterson of Livonia crossed the centerline and struck a semi-truck.
Peterson sustained serious injuries and required extrication from the vehicle before being airlifted to a nearby hospital. His passenger, 87-year-old Ina Crawford of Livonia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi-truck driver, a 37-year-old man from Cadillac, was uninjured. Emergency responders from Lincoln Township Fire Department, Surrey Township Fire Department, and Mobile Medical Response Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
Traffic crash reconstruction specialists from the Michigan State Police are also on site to aid in the investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
