PALMER, Alaska (WKRC) — A 32-year-old woman faces felony charges following a crash in the Jim Creek Recreation Area that killed a 10-year-old child and injured three others on June 18.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Hannah Lebel of Wasilla drove four juveniles in a side-by-side utility vehicle when it overturned. Bystanders attempted life-saving efforts, but the 10-year-old was at the scene.

Three other children sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Authorities observed signs of impairment during their investigation and determined Lebel was intoxicated.

Charging documents reveal Lebel admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident, stating she was intentionally driving through water to spray the children. Witnesses reported hearing a warning about the vehicle's speed before the crash. Investigators found the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, and none of the occupants were wearing seat belts.

Lebel has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, assault, and driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.
