A pregnant woman died after the vehicle she was a passenger in ran a red light and crashed in Phoenix.

The incident occurred on June 20 at approximately 11:32 p.m. near Loop 101 and 19th Avenue, according to Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez of the Phoenix Police.

Officers found the pregnant woman in critical condition at the scene. She was not identified, as police are withholding her name.

Phoenix Fire personnel transported her to a hospital, where both she and her unborn child were shortly after arrival, Fernandez stated.

The adult male driver of the vehicle, who also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to authorities.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision, which was traveling east on Beardsley Road, remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigations.

Investigators were informed that the driver of the first vehicle ran a red light before the crash. Officers assessed the second driver for impairment and found no signs of intoxication, Fernandez confirmed.
