A Texas state trooper was killed Wednesday in a crash during an attempted traffic stop on US-287 near Childress, authorities said.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on US-287 around 4:00 p.m.
Authorities said a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of his patrol unit, causing a collision; Romero died at the scene.
DPS said Romero previously served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office before joining the agency in 2025. He was stationed in Childress.
