PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Three people died and a child was critically injured Monday in a collision at Coal Dock Road and State Route 32.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a car driven by Hannah Howard failed to stop at a stop sign while crossing SR 32 and entered the path of an oncoming semi-truck hauling an empty logging trailer.
Authorities said Howard, her 9-year-old son, and 5-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said her youngest child was airlifted to Nationwide Children's Hospital and remains in critical condition.
The semi-truck driver attempted to stop and was not injured, investigators said.
Ohio State Highway Patrol's Portsmouth Post is leading the investigation. Details on lane closures and vehicle tows were not immediately available.
