AURORA, Colo. (WKRC) — A man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for kidnapping a witness following a traffic crash on May 25, 2025.

According to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office, Shane McSwane, 29, forcibly entered the vehicle of Grace Dotson after she attempted to call 911. He held her captive for four hours while driving erratically.

During this time, McSwane allowed Dotson to answer calls from her family, who were concerned for her safety. The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office reported that police tracked Dotson's vehicle and pursued McSwane after he used the to rob a Circle K convenience store.

Authorities utilized stop sticks and a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable McSwane's vehicle, leading to his arrest. Dotson was rescued unharmed.

McSwane pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. He is required to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
