PUEBLO, Colo. — June 12, 2026 — A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 26 years for a 2025 kidnapping that followed a vehicle crash.

According to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office, Shane McSwane, 29, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery and was sentenced June 12. Authorities said he must serve 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility.

Prosecutors said the incident began May 25, 2025, when McSwane was involved in a crash witnessed by Grace Dotson, who stopped to call 911.

Authorities said McSwane forced himself into Dotson's vehicle, kidnapped her, and held her for 4 hours while driving in multiple directions.

Deputies deployed stop sticks and executed a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle. Authorities said McSwane was arrested at the scene and Dotson was rescued.

No lane closures, tows, or injuries were detailed in the releases. The case is closed with sentencing, according to the District Attorney's Office.
