TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Thursday that his office has issued criminal and civil subpoenas to White Hawk Carriers, the employer of truck driver Harjinder Singh, involved in a fatal crash in St. Lucie County that killed three people.

Authorities reported that Singh, identified as an undocumented immigrant with Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) from Washington and California, allegedly made a dangerous U-turn that resulted in the crash. Uthmeier emphasized that Singh could not communicate in English and was unable to read road signs, raising concerns about his qualifications to operate a commercial vehicle.

“We're going to use every legal tool at our disposal to protect our citizens,” Uthmeier stated. Subpoenas have also been issued to both Washington and California to investigate how Singh obtained his CDLs and to identify other undocumented individuals who may have received similar licenses.

Uthmeier criticized sanctuary states for their practices, asserting that they “want to protect criminals,” while affirming Florida's commitment to accountability and safety.

Local law enforcement supported the announcement, with Uthmeier recognizing the sheriff's efforts to address issues related to undocumented individuals in the state.
