ROSEAU, Minn. — A fatal crash occurred on May 29 at approximately 4 p.m. after a driver swerved into oncoming traffic.
According to court documents, 43-year-old Shauna Dokken was driving on the highway when her vehicle collided head-on with an SUV operated by 82-year-old Barbara Lee Welburg, resulting in Welburg's death at the scene.
First responders noted Dokken exhibited slurred speech but did not test positive for alcohol. Authorities stated Dokken had taken multiple prescription medications earlier, including Adderall and lorazepam.
Dokken sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Witnesses reported Dokken swerved into their path, with one claiming it felt intentional.
Dokken provided conflicting accounts of the incident, including an assertion that her dog had grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control.
Authorities reported that Dokken, who was on probation for a DWI conviction from 2025, has been charged with vehicular homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
