U.S. Navy Drone Rescues Crewmembers from Downed Apache Helicopter in Oman
MUSANDAM, OMAN— A U.S. Army AH-64 Apache attack helicopter went down near Oman's coast at approximately 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to U.S. Central Command.
The incident occurred during a routine patrol, and the cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Central Command confirmed that a U.S. Navy drone was involved in the rescue operation but did not specify the type of drone used.
Two crew members were rescued within two hours and are reported to be in stable condition. “Nobody was injured,” President Donald Trump stated while addressing reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
Authorities confirmed that the U.S. 5th Fleet's Task Force 59, which integrates unmanned systems with maritime operations, conducted the rescue. The situation unfolds amidst ongoing tensions in the region, characterized by an uneasy ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, marked by periodic clashes and drone strikes.
Further details about lane closures or emergency response coordination have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
