JEFFERSON COUNTY — A fatal vehicle crash occurred on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, on I-15, resulting in one death and two minor injuries.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), a 36-year-old man from Helena was traveling northbound between Boulder and Jefferson City with two children in the vehicle.

MHP reported that the vehicle transitioned into the left lane around mile marker 169 to overtake slower traffic, subsequently drifting off the left side of the roadway. It re-entered the roadway before sliding across both lanes and colliding with a guardrail.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities.

First responders pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The two children, who were seat-belted, suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Peter’s Health for evaluation and treatment.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
