Motorcyclist dies following police chase in Ladson.

LADSON — A motorcyclist died following a police chase that ended in a crash early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when a deputy attempted to pull over a motorcyclist on U.S. Highway 78 at Midview Drive, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. The motorcyclist fled, prompting the deputy to pursue through the area.

The chase concluded at the intersection of Dunmeyer Hill Road and Maria Eden Road near Summerville, where the rider lost control, ran off the road, and struck a pole, said Master Trooper Joseph Rowell of the S.C. Highway Patrol. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released.
