Accident in Gage County Leaves Two Seriously Injured
GAGE COUNTY, NE — A crash at the intersection of Highway 77 and Highway 112 around 6:18 p.m. on Saturday left two individuals with serious injuries, according to the Gage County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy on patrol was flagged down at the scene, where they discovered one person with a significant leg laceration. The deputy applied a tourniquet to manage the bleeding until ambulances arrived.
Authorities identified the driver as Dominic Edwards, 19, from Marysville, Kansas. Edwards was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck westbound on Highway 77 when he attempted to brake while navigating a curve. The vehicle hydroplaned on the wet road, veering into a ditch and rolling several times before stopping in a nearby hay field.
A 14-year-old passenger was ejected from the truck during the incident. Edwards was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital, while the passenger was taken to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln. Both sustained serious injuries.
Investigators noted that seat belts were likely not in use and reported that drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash.
Emergency responders included the Gage County Sheriff's Office, Wymore Fire and Rescue, and Beatrice Fire and Rescue. The investigation is ongoing.
