ROSEAU, Minn. (WKRC) — A woman was charged with vehicular homicide following a fatal crash on May 29.

According to court documents, 43-year-old Shauna Dokken drove into oncoming traffic at approximately 4 p.m., colliding head-on with an driven by 82-year-old Barbara Lee Welburg, who was at the scene.

First responders noted that Dokken exhibited slurred speech, though she tested negative for alcohol. Authorities reported that she had taken multiple prescription medications, including Adderall and lorazepam, earlier that day.

Dokken sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Witnesses indicated that Dokken's vehicle swerved dangerously, with one witness stating he had to veer off the road to avoid a collision.

Dokken allegedly provided conflicting statements to police regarding the incident, including claims that her dog had distracted her by grabbing the steering wheel. She was reportedly on probation for a DWI conviction at the time of the crash.

Dokken has since been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and lane closures were in effect while emergency personnel responded.
