Woman alleges dog took control of steering wheel in fatal car crash, police report.

ROSEAU, Minn. (WKRC) – A woman faces charges following a fatal accident on May 29, when her vehicle collided with an oncoming , resulting in one death.

According to court documents, 43-year-old Shauna Dokken was driving on the highway around 4 p.m. when she swerved into oncoming traffic, striking 82-year-old Barbara Lee Welburg's . Welburg was at the scene after her vehicle overturned.

First responders reported that Dokken exhibited slurred speech but did not test positive for alcohol. She informed authorities that she had taken multiple prescription medications, including Adderall and lorazepam, earlier in the day.

Dokken sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Witnesses reported that Dokken's erratic driving forced them to maneuver to avoid a collision, with one claiming it seemed she was “intentionally tracking” him.

Dokken provided conflicting accounts about the incident, including a claim that her dog had grabbed the steering wheel causing the crash. She was reportedly on probation for a prior DWI conviction from 2025 at the time of this incident.

Dokken has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Lane closures were in effect while emergency services responded.
