TOMS RIVER ‑ An Ocean County grand jury has indicted Jamie Doyle, 40, on charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter related to a fatal crash on January 23, which claimed the life of a 76-year-old man.
Authorities said Doyle was also charged with driving on a suspended license. He will face trial on these charges.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. on January 23, Toms River police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Romana Lane and Route 37, where a white Nissan Maxima and a red Chevrolet Trax were severely damaged.
Ronald Bucher, the driver of the Chevrolet Trax, required extrication and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, according to county law enforcement officials.
Doyle showed signs of impairment at the scene and was treated for a broken femur at Community Medical Center before being taken into custody.
Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Doyle's Nissan, traveling westbound on Route 37, struck the Chevrolet, which had the right of way while southbound on Romana Lane.
Witnesses reported Doyle's erratic driving behavior and disregard for traffic signals prior to the collision. He was allegedly speeding at 106 mph in a 50 mph zone at the time of the crash.
A blood test revealed the presence of phencyclidine (PCP) and MDMA in Doyle's system, according to law enforcement officials.
Doyle remains in the Ocean County Jail, where he has been held since January 30.
