GREAT FALLS, MT — A 12-year-old girl was killed and two others injured in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near mile marker 460 on August 22, 2025, at 6:40 a.m.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), a 42-year-old man was driving a Jeep Gladiator westbound with two passengers: a 14-year-old boy and the 12-year-old girl, all from Burien, Washington. The driver lost control while negotiating a left turn, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and strike a tree, which led to the Jeep overturning.
The vehicle subsequently crashed into another tree and came to rest on its roof. The 12-year-old girl died at the scene, while the driver and the teenage boy were transported to Intermountain Health for medical attention.
Authorities noted that the driver and the 14-year-old passenger were wearing seatbelts, but the deceased girl was not. The MHP indicated that alcohol, drugs, and speed were not contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
