Man Killed in I-25 Crash Near Happy Canyon Road on Friday Afternoon
A 31-year-old Aurora man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 near Happy Canyon Road around 2:41 p.m. on Friday, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
Authorities reported that the man was backing his Chevrolet Equinox on the right northbound shoulder when an Audi Q5 collided with the rear of his vehicle. The Equinox had drifted into the right lane, subsequently leading to a collision with a Toyota Highlander traveling north in that lane.
The crash resulted in the Equinox coming to a stop on the shoulder, while the Audi and Highlander remained on the highway, obstructing traffic. Northbound lanes were closed for approximately four hours.
The driver of the Equinox died at the scene. The Douglas County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once notifications have been made. The 46-year-old driver of the Audi, a woman from Parker, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The 58-year-old driver of the Highlander, a woman from Castle Pines, sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital.
CSP is conducting the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to investigators is urged to contact CSP dispatch at 303-239-4501.
