COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A dump truck driver died Friday afternoon following a crash in Richland County.
The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 13 and State Route 96 west. According to authorities, the dump truck was traveling north on State Route 13 when an 81-year-old man driving a Chrysler minivan attempted a left turn from State Route 96.
Investigators reported that the dump truck collided with the passenger side of the minivan before veering off and striking a guardrail on the southbound side of the road. The impact caused the dump truck to overturn, resulting in the driver being partially ejected from the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Richland County Coroner's Office was working to confirm the driver's identity as of late Friday.
A third vehicle, driven by a 26-year-old woman from Mansfield, was also involved; she sustained minor damage but was unharmed.
Authorities stated that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
