INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — A police pursuit culminated in a crash on Kentucky Avenue on Thursday morning, causing significant traffic delays.
According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), the chase began when officers tracked a stolen pickup truck to a hotel on the southeast side of the city. The vehicle, occupied by a man and a woman, sped away as troopers approached.
ISP Sgt. John Perrine reported that a law enforcement helicopter monitored the chase from above, enabling ground units to maintain a safe distance. The pursuit led to the southwest side of Indianapolis, where officers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to halt the vehicle.
The truck subsequently crashed into the median along Kentucky Ave/SR 67, flipping onto its roof. Witness Sabrienna Foster, who was on her way to work at Denny's, reported the incident occurred rapidly behind her.
The crash resulted in significant damage to the vehicle, with the roof flattened and debris scattered across the roadway. Fortunately, ISP stated that no bystanders were injured, and there were no serious injuries reported to the occupants.
Traffic remained impacted for several hours following the incident as cleanup operations were conducted. Both individuals in the truck had active warrants, with the driver facing a pre-existing charge of auto theft.
Perrine noted that the investigation would seek connections between the stolen vehicle and other potential crimes in the area.
