Recalls Over 61,000 Cherokees for Powertrain Issues

UNDATED (WKRC) – Chrysler has issued a recall for more than 61,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs due to a potential powertrain failure.

The recall affects certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee models. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a defective power transfer unit (PTU) may lead to a loss of drive power and increase the risk of unintended vehicle movement, potentially resulting in injury.

Chrysler, a unit of FCA US LLC, is currently developing a remedy. Owners can expect notification letters to be mailed starting June 25, detailing the safety risks. A second notice will follow once a fix is available.

For further information, affected owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 40D. Vehicle identification numbers related to the recall will be searchable on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
