LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A child was killed and another injured Thursday in a collision between a pickup truck and an e-scooter near Butternut Lane and Charnut Lane at approximately 2:50 p.m.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), a 10-year-old boy died at the scene. A 9-year-old riding another e-scooter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene, and authorities said there is no suspicion of impairment. LVMPD Lt. Cody Fulwiler emphasized the importance of community awareness, stating, “We need to talk to our kids about riding bicycles and e-scooters,” and urging motorists to exercise caution in neighborhoods.

This incident follows a recent uptick in child injuries and fatalities on local roadways. In the current school year alone, 142 children have been involved in crashes during school hours, surpassing last year's count of 120 incidents.

With Halloween approaching, Fulwiler warned drivers to remain vigilant, noting the community's growing concern over child safety on the roads.
